How local image processing works

Image files are decoded and encoded with browser APIs and local workers. The selected pixels are processed in browser memory and are not sent to a conversion server.

Changing formats does not restore quality already lost from a source image. PNG is lossless but can be larger, while JPG and WebP are usually better for compact photographic files.
