Convert JPG to PNG

Create PNG files from JPG images when a tool specifically requires PNG. This does not improve the original photo quality and usually makes the file larger.

About JPG and PNG conversion

Some design systems, ticket forms, asset managers, and document tools ask for PNG even when your source image is a JPG. This converter gives you that container change in the browser so the file extension and MIME type match the requirement.

A JPG has already gone through lossy compression. Saving it as PNG cannot restore detail, remove compression blocks, or recreate transparency that was never in the JPG. The PNG stores the decoded JPG pixels losslessly from that point forward, which is useful for compatibility but not for quality enhancement.

Expect bigger files. PNG is not optimized for most camera photos, so a JPG converted to PNG commonly grows. Use this direction for strict PNG requirements, not as a general photo optimization step.

FAQ

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. The PNG can only store the pixels decoded from the JPG, so existing compression artifacts and lost detail remain.

Why is the PNG larger than my JPG?

PNG uses lossless compression and is usually inefficient for photos, while JPG is built for compact photographic images.

Will JPG to PNG create transparency?

No. A normal JPG is opaque, and converting it to PNG does not create a transparent background.

When should I convert JPG to PNG anyway?

Use it when a site, editor, or asset pipeline explicitly requires PNG input even though your available source is a JPG.
